From a hospital ward in 1942 to a legacy that touches thousands of lives, Hospital Welfare marks 85 remarkable years of dignity, compassion and community service.
Counting down to August 2027
Eight decades of impact, one community at a time.
A small group of concerned community members came together at Somerset Hospital to ensure Muslim patients received food that respected their dietary needs. The Hospital Welfare Society was born.
During Apartheid, the organisation pioneered an education bursary fund to unlock opportunities for financially needy youth, empowering future generations when they needed it most.
The organisation expanded into social welfare, burial support and broader community care, serving families during their most vulnerable moments regardless of race, creed or circumstance.
Hospital Welfare deepened its commitment to inclusive care, supporting the visually impaired community through dedicated programmes at the School for the Blind.
Over 7,000 bursary awards, 1,500+ feeding scheme meals annually, and hospital support across Cape Town, powered by a community of dedicated volunteers.
