A Day of Faith, Justice and Moral Courage
On 11 July 2026, Hospital Welfare Muslim Educational Movement hosted the inaugural Voices of Karbala Speech Contest at the Islamia Auditorium in Cape Town. The contest brought together 10 exceptional matric and university students who researched, prepared and delivered speeches on the theme of Faith, Justice and Moral Courage.
With approximately 150 community members in attendance, the auditorium was filled with energy, reflection and pride. Each contestant was given the opportunity not only to compete for prizes, but to engage deeply with one of history's most enduring lessons and share their perspective with their community.
The event was judged by a distinguished panel and concluded with a prize-giving ceremony awarding R17,500 in total prizes, as well as opportunities for publication and a radio interview for the top contestants.
